Guidelines for Reporting Rarities and Submission of Annual Records
Detailed records of nationally or locally rare species (guidance on these is
here) should be sent to the County Recorder Eddie Hunter (
goweros23@gmail.com) as soon as possible after the sighting. An appropriate description should be provided of the species, your previous experience of it (and similar species), the circumstances and weather conditions in which the sighting occurred and any other pertinent information (such as photos). He will then circulate to the local or national records committee as relevant.
Day to day observations, including of nest sites, flocks of birds and species of local interest, should be collated in the Annual Record Form and sent to Eddie as an email attachment following each calendar year. Receiving these by the end of January is ideal as an early start can then be made on compiling the annual report.
PLEASE NOTE
Please could we ask that detailed locational information that may lead to the disturbance of the nest sites of species listed under Schedule 1 of the Wildlife & Countryside Act (1981) is omitted from any posts. This may otherwise lead to an offence being committed.
Schedule 1 species that regularly breed in the recording area are Dartford warbler, chough, honey buzzard, crossbill, goshawk, kingfisher, hobby, red kite, barn owl, peregrine, little ringed plover and Cetti’s warbler.
Bit of a flying ants day in Tycoch today. Loads of gulls drawn in overhead; unfortunately no swifts or hirundines seen.
Unfortunately due to an unfavourable weather forecast, the ringing event due to take place at Oxwich on Saturday has been postponed. We will provide an alternative date very soon.

There have been a load screaming over Manselton too, yesterday and today
Walk from Rhossili over to Mewslade. Highlights were small flock of Manx Sheerwater off shore at Rhossili. 6 Chough 2+4). Yellowhammer heard frequently in Mewslade valley but not seen.
47 reed warblers captured by Gower Ringing Group at Oxwich on Saturday, providing further indication of a good breeding season on the marsh. Also 18 sedge warblers and 20 greenfinch.
Nice to see 15 swifts on my street in Briton. Ferry I’ve found only 3 active nests this year on my estate looks like they have had some success

Castell-du first thing: 9 Little Ringed Plover (passage birds), 10 Common Sandpiper, 1 Dunlin, Marsh Harrier and 50+ Pied Wagtail of note
8 Grey Heron, 4 Great White and 86 Little Egrets off Loughor Foreshore this evening
At Wernffrwd yesterday evening, 80+ Swift were feeding low over the tide. edge as it crept over saltmarsh. A lot more than I’ve seen in while. Most drifted slowly west.
Eight Med Gulls on the foreshore near the Blackpill skatepark this morning at 07.15.
Good to see a kestrel foraging at Rotherslade yesterday. Increasingly scarce locally.
Also scarlet tiger moth on the wing on Rotherslade Road.
Counts on the falling tide from Loughor Foreshore car park this morning included 1 Great White and 71 Little Egrets, 4 Heron, 1 Med and 591 Black-headed Gulls, 29 Shelduck and 1 Dunlin.
