WWT Llanelli CES9 29/07/2015

with No Comments

This morning was a cold start, it was more like Autumn than Summer. Our 7 nets were up and ready by 05.45am. Our first round was mainly Wrens and Robins as in previous weeks. This years breeding season seems to have been particularly successful for Wrens and Robins and on other sites we use as well.

The only Blackcap of the day was this female aged 4 with a brood patch of 4.

Worthy of a special note were the 4 Song Thrush we caught, 3 of which were juveniles. This was the best record in terms of numbers caught in one session for this site.

All Chiffchaff were juveniles this week. After being processed the Chiffchaff above just looked around and did not fly off instantly like most birds do. A photographic opportunity!

33 birds in total, 27 of which were juveniles
