WWT Llanelli – CES 7 ‘Wrensday’

with No Comments
Heather Coats and I travelled west to embark upon the seventh CES session of the year. Weather conditions were favourable with an overcast sky and no breeze to disturb the nets. The early net rounds each produced a juvenile wren or two with the species making up over 25% of the final total.
Wren (Juvenile)
Juvenile birds became the order of the day totalling more than 80% of the birds trapped. Migrants were in the minority despite the chorus of chiffchaffs and blackcaps in the surrounding area.
Blackcap (Juvenile)
Treecreeper (Juvenile)

From ten o’clock the session was conducted under blue skies, warm temperatures and a slight breeze; subsequently the number of birds trapped diminished to give a total for the day of forty birds of twelve species.
