Guidelines for Reporting Rarities and Submission of Annual Records
Detailed records of nationally or locally rare species (guidance on these is
here) should be sent to the County Recorder Eddie Hunter (
goweros23@gmail.com) as soon as possible after the sighting. An appropriate description should be provided of the species, your previous experience of it (and similar species), the circumstances and weather conditions in which the sighting occurred and any other pertinent information (such as photos). He will then circulate to the local or national records committee as relevant.
Day to day observations, including of nest sites, flocks of birds and species of local interest, should be collated in the Annual Record Form and sent to Eddie as an email attachment following each calendar year. Receiving these by the end of January is ideal as an early start can then be made on compiling the annual report.
PLEASE NOTE
Please could we ask that detailed locational information that may lead to the disturbance of the nest sites of species listed under Schedule 1 of the Wildlife & Countryside Act (1981) is omitted from any posts. This may otherwise lead to an offence being committed.
Schedule 1 species that regularly breed in the recording area are Dartford warbler, chough, honey buzzard, crossbill, goshawk, kingfisher, hobby, red kite, barn owl, peregrine, little ringed plover and Cettiās warbler.

Redwing 39, Curlew 6, Shelduck 3, Teal 30, Redshank 2, Little Egret 2, Wigeon 115, Pied Wagtail 19, Little Grebe1 in bp, Little ringed Plover 1, a presumed migrant that appeared to fly high up river as the tide rose.

Chiffchaff singing at Crymlyn Bog this morning.
Longhole Cliff to Porteynon this morning: 2 common scoter and a shag east, and a displaying rock pipit east of Longhole Cliff.
Mixed wader roost on Sedgers Bank contained 11 ringed plover, 2 purple sandpiper, 6 turnstone, 2 curlew and 22 oystercatcher.
Chough (2) over with a small jackdaw flock.

Oxwich Bay: 59 oystercatcher, 45 sanderling. Lots of chiffchaff singing in the scrub in the dunes.
Early morning on the Gower Commons yesterday resulted in a singing Dartford warbler, another Dartford sighting (silent bird), goshawk, stock dove and the first day of the year with multiple singing chiffchaff for me.

A visit in hope to catch up with a Ruff that has been present since Saturday (Chris Brewer found it Sat am and Barry Stewart saw it Sun pm). No luck with the Ruff unfortunately but a Barnacle Goose with c20 Canada Geese were on Morfa Mawr before relocating to the Carms side of the river. c20 Black-tailed Godwits and a Green Sandpiper were at Grange Farm pond. A Common Sandpiper and Greenshank were feeding on the riverbank.
Lapwing (3 pairs) returned to the old Felindre works site.
The first of the Kittiwakes have arrived back at the pier: 26 there this morning.
