GOS is a charity. Donations are welcome and it is only £12 to join (for which you get the annual bird report, email updates concerning events and an invitation to attend all of our walks / field trips free of charge). Walks are £5 for non-members. We welcome members and non-members alike to the free online talks. For in-person talks there is a nominal fee of £1 on the door to help cover room hire.
We encourage all to join the society and contribute to the bird recording and conservation initiatives GOS promotes.
The Osprey
5 March 2025 @ 19:30 - 21:00
Dr Tim Mackrill will talk to us about the Osprey.
Tim is a nature conservationist who leads the work of the Roy Dennis Wildlife Foundation in England. This includes the reintroduction of White-tailed Eagles and Ospreys. Tim managed the Rutland Osprey Project for more than ten years, having first got involved as a volunteer when he was 15 years old. He is passionate about inspiring and enabling young conservation leaders. He has a PhD on Osprey migration and is the author of books including “The Rutland Water Ospreys” and “The Osprey” in the Poyser series.
Tim’s talk will have a Welsh twist, reflecting the the growing osprey population in Wales. Members will be aware that osprey are not infrequently seen on the Burry Inlet during passage periods, and on a more occasional basis over our inland reservoirs and rivers.
